Brave, 3RDegree and Ephemeral Sun in Concert May 30, 2010

Posted 2010-04-25 10:50:15.588326-04

Come out and get an early start on the Memorial Day holiday when the Society of Art Rock continues its sixth annual concert series with performances by Brave, 3RDegree, and Ephemeral Sun on Sunday May 30, 2010, 7:30 PM, at Jammin Java.

Brave, one of Northern Virginia's most popular progressive rock bands, will kick things off. A six piece (vocals/keyboards, guitar, guitar, bass, drums and violin), they have released eight CDs, three in a previous incarnation of the band called Arise From Thorns. While compared to Lacuna Coil and Evanescence, their progressive stylings also draw lots of attention from listeners of Renaissance, Curved Air and Iona.

New Jersey's 3RDegree -- after 2 full-length albums -- called it quits in 1997 only to reform in 2005 to create 2008's Narrow-Caster CD which created waves in the progressive rock realm with the Dutch Progressive Rock Page stating "it's not often an album as refreshing as this comes along, and we should treasure it when it does" giving it a 9 out of 10 rating in the process. Their Jammin Java performance will feature George Dobbs' passionate and soulful lead vocal (plus his keyboard prowess) mixed with the vocal harmonies of bassist Robert James Pashman and guitarist Eric Pseja -all this held down by the great feel of new drummer Aaron Nobel.

Ephemeral Sun is an exercise in contrasts, creating a music that balances elements both cerebral and visceral in nature. Their latest album "Harvest Aorta" finds the band moving into still more ambitious musical territory as they continue to make manifest their unspoken mission statement to forge a unique sonic path filled with dark, complex instrumental passages and extended adventures in theme and variation. In a live setting, the band hits the stage hard, fast, and ready to present their work in the best manner possible. Even within the huge, dense atmosphere the band creates, they manage to balance the same dynamic contrasts that are displayed on their studio work.

Admission $10.
