Annual Holiday Concert and Art Rock Jam, January 2 2010

The Society of Art Rock will hold its fifth annual holiday concert, musician jam, and party on Saturday January 2 2010 at the Soundry gallery in Vienna, VA. Progressive rock fans and musicians of all ages who appreciate non-traditional influences and uneven timing in rock music are invited to attend this event which begins with a concert at 7 PM. Musicians should bring their instrument and an amp (if required) to participate in the jam. A $5 fee will be collected at the door to help defray costs. (Patrons of the Society of Art Rock will be admitted for free.)

Sansyou was formed in March 2006 as a project to explore the possibilities of taking a rock-band approach to the composition of acoustic instrumental music. Combining six and twelve-string guitar with cello and small percussion (plenty of bongos and a fair share of well-worn cymbals), they explore melody, harmony and textural sound. Sansyou will play a short composed set to begin the evening’s activities.

Following Sansyou’s concert, they will be joined on stage by the members of Conduit, an improvising collective of four musicians (keyboards, wind synthesizer, bass and drums), to lead any musicians that want to participate in a joyous jam to celebrate the end of another great Art Rock concert series, the award of an Operating Support Grant Program grant from the Arts Council of Fairfax County to SOAR, and the concert possibilities of 2010.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a small folding chair and a food item to share (from a commercial establishment only, please) between and after the music sets. An assortment of drinks will be available for sale from the Soundry coffee shop.
